Preface
Although I
have read the Urantia Book ( hereinafter referred to as the UB) right through
several times, I realize that many people find it difficult. It has coined a
lot of new English vocabulary in order to express concepts for which our
earthly English provides no words. The introduction in Paper 0 of the UB gives
definitions and explanations of these new words that can scarcely be understood
unless you read the whole of the UB to find out all the contexts in which they
are used, and then read them again. Thirdly, the UB is almost 2,000 pages.
For these
reasons, many people have felt the need for a brief summary of the UB, and this
has been supplied by Michelle Klimesh, helped by a group of her friends, in a
book called Story of Everything,
published by Square Circles Publishing, Inc. of www.squarecircles.com . My friend Dan sent me a pdf copy of this
book recently, and I found it very helpful. It filled in a lot of gaps in my
mind: things I had either forgotten or not understood or glossed over. I
recommend it to anyone who feels intimidated by the UB.
I have
never tried to summarize the whole UB myself. My approach has been more topical
and polemical: I take a particular topic and compare it with the teachings of
other religions or belief systems. Since I believe that the UB is the Fifth
Epochal Revelation for us from God, I am trying to make it known to anyone I
can reach. It is foundational for the transition to the new age of light and
life that will come after we have gone through a period of correction.

The Hebrew religion encompasses the philosophic transition from polytheism to
monotheism; it is an evolutionary link between the religions of evolution and
the religions of revelation. The Hebrews were the only western people to follow
their early evolutionary gods straight through to the God of revelation. But
this truth never became widely accepted until the days of Isaiah, who once
again taught the blended idea of a racial deity combined with a Universal
Creator: “O Lord of Hosts, God of Israel, you are God, even you alone; you have
made heaven and earth.” At one time the hope of the survival of Occidental civilization
lay in the sublime Hebraic concepts of goodness and the advanced Hellenic
concepts of beauty.
I am not
saying that anyone is obliged to believe in the UB. The teachings of Jesus
given in Part lV show that he is not at all concerned with belief systems as
such, which are mindal rather than spiritual. His concern is with true Faith,
which is a spiritual awareness of the indwelling Fragment of the Father, and
includes love and trust in His guidance, and the recognition of His equal love
for all created persons. That is what makes you realize that all people are
your brothers and sisters: because God loves each and all of them in the same
way as He loves you. That is the core of Jesus' teaching: the Fatherhood of God
and the Brotherhood of Man.
Another
reason why God is not much bothered about our belief systems is that it is
impossible for mortal humans to construct or understand an infallible belief
system. As the UB says, mortals creatures may aspire to infallibility, but only
the Creators can attain it. We are not saved by our belief systems, but by our
'Faith' in the true sense of the word: and, in the true sense, Faith includes
both Hope and Love; and the greatest of these is Love.
All our
religions are fallible and incomplete. We are not ready for a final and
complete revelation. Even the UB is not final and complete. It is in the genre
of an encyclopedia. Like the 1935 Britannica, it is comprised of papers on
various subjects, not in alphabetical order. The UB is only the first volume,
and I hope that, over the next ten thousand years, many more volumes will come
along.
The UB is
the Fifth Epochal Revelation, but it is not a religion in the traditional sense
of the word. Rather is it a mine of information for each and every human being
to dig into and use for building up his individual, personal relationship with
God. It does not claim to be complete and perfect, but to have the validity of
relative truth in regard to its content. It is also approved by the highest
authorities of the Trinity Government of our Superuniverse of Orvonton. And it
sparkles with the brilliance of the many celestial persons who composed it.
In this
book my main source is the UB. When I use other sources I check up that they
are not contradicting the UB, even though I allow that they may be adding some
new ideas. One of those sources is the teachings of Jeshua, which I found in
two books of Glenda Green sent to me by my good friend and mentor, Marylise
Morand. The UB gives Jesus' name as Joshua, but it is possible that the Aramaic
dialect of Galilee used a different
pronunciation. It seems that, in his family home, Jesus was called Jeshua, with
the emphasis on the "oo". Anyhow, as far as I am concerned it must be
Jesus, because it would be impossible for anyone at less than his subabsolute
level to write like that. Whenever I have given Jeshua's ideas I put them in
reported speech, not quotations. It would not be fair to plagiarize the
brilliance of the original books, to which the reader can refer. They are Love Without End and The Keys of Jeshua by Glenda Green,

But the
real reason I started writing this book was a post by my friend Michelle
Duchemin in the forum on her website, www.obcmj.org where she quoted this item from the UB:
"(1289.3) 117:6.10 All true
love is from God, and man receives the divine affection as he himself bestows
this love upon his fellows. Love is dynamic. It can never be captured; it is
alive, free, thrilling, and always moving. Man can never take the love of the
Father and imprison it within his heart. The Father’s love can become real to
mortal man only by passing through that man’s personality as he in turn bestows
this love upon his fellows. The great circuit of love is from the Father,
through sons to brothers, and hence to the Supreme. The love of the Father
appears in the mortal personality by the ministry of the indwelling Adjuster.
Such a God-knowing son reveals this love to his universe brethren, and this
fraternal affection is the essence of the love of the Supreme."
Here I have given quotation marks
and the full original reference number in the UB. But in the rest of this book
I will leave out quotation marks for UB quotations, and I will abbreviate the
reference numbers in this manner: 117.6.10, where the Paper Number is 117, the
Section Number is 6, and the Item Number is 10. That is all you need to find it
in the UB easily.
The real point about Michelle's post
is that, no matter how often I read the UB, I always find something new. I
might have read it before, but never appreciated it until that moment when I
read it again. It was that moment that inspired me to explore the love of God,
which is His own Essence and Nature, and, in combination with Truth, Life, and Will,
constitutes the Principle of Self-Existence.
Another reason why I could not do a
summary of the UB without quoting it is that I can no more write about the UB
without quoting it than I can write about the Bible without quoting the exact
words. That is where the electricity comes from.
The main question people ask about
this life is, "why are we here?". The UB answers this question
precisely. We are here to build our character. After death we go on from one
world to another, from one life to another. But, so long as we choose to
continue, although our body and mind change from life to life many times over,
what we take with us is the same God-given personality, plus our memories, and
the character that we have built, at least partly, by our own efforts. That is
what becomes immortal forever.
117.5.13 What man himself takes with him as a personality possession are the
character consequences of the experience of having used the mind and spirit
circuits of the grand universe in his Paradise ascent. When man decides, and
when he consummates this decision in action, man experiences, and the meanings
and the values of this experience are forever a part of his eternal character
on all levels, from the finite to the final. Cosmically moral and divinely
spiritual character represents the creature’s capital accumulation of personal
decisions which have been illuminated by sincere worship, glorified by
intelligent love, and consummated in brotherly service. ***
117.6.5 The morontia soul of an evolving mortal is really the son of the
Adjuster action of the Universal Father and the child of the cosmic reaction of
the Supreme Being, the Universal Mother. The mother
influence dominates the human personality throughout the local universe
childhood of the growing soul. The influence of the Deity parents
becomes more equal after the Adjuster fusion and during the superuniverse
career, but when the creatures of time begin the traversal of the central
universe of eternity, the Father nature becomes increasingly manifest,
attaining its height of finite manifestation upon the recognition of the
Universal Father and the admission into the Corps of the Finality. ***

The instinctive realization of this mother influence manifests itself in
the worship of the Mother goddess by various names, and the cult of the Mother
of God in Christianity. An intuition of divine motherhood is a dominant feature
of many historical religions. Judaism and Islam are the exceptions. But the UB
idea of God the Mother, being a Fact, transcends all these historical
intuitional yearnings.
196.3.33 Be not discouraged; human evolution is still in
progress, and the revelation of God to the world, in and through Jesus, shall
not fail.
109.3.2
On certain primitive worlds (the series one group) the Adjuster indwells the
mind of the creature as an experiential training, chiefly for self-culture and
progressive development. Virgin Adjusters are usually sent to such worlds
during the earlier times when primitive men are arriving in the valley of decision,
but when comparatively few will elect to ascend the moral heights beyond the
hills of self-mastery and character acquirement to attain the higher levels of
emerging spirituality. (Many, however, who fail of Adjuster fusion do survive
as Spirit-fused ascenders.) The Adjusters receive valuable training and acquire
wonderful experience in transient association with primitive minds, and they
are able subsequently to utilize this experience for the benefit of superior
beings on other worlds. Nothing of survival value is
ever lost in all the wide universe.

OF SURVIVAL VALUE IS EVER LOST IN ALL THE WIDE UNIVERSE." And that includes whales, dolphins, elephants,
dogs, cats, pigs, birds, pets of all kinds – everything that can love. Main

5.5.13 Eternal
survival of personality is wholly dependent on the choosing of the mortal mind,
whose decisions determine the survival potential of the immortal soul. When the
mind believes God and the soul knows God, and when, with the fostering
Adjuster, they all desire God, then is survival assured. Limitations of
intellect, curtailment of education, deprivation of culture, impoverishment of
social status, even inferiority of the human standards of morality resulting
from the unfortunate lack of educational, cultural, and social advantages,
cannot invalidate the presence of the divine spirit in such unfortunate and
humanly handicapped but believing individuals. The indwelling of the Mystery
Monitor constitutes the inception and insures the possibility of the potential
of growth and survival of the immortal soul.
5.5.14 The ability of mortal parents to procreate is not
predicated on their educational, cultural, social, or economic status. The
union of the parental factors under natural conditions is quite sufficient to
initiate offspring. A human mind discerning right and wrong and possessing the
capacity to worship God, in union with a divine Adjuster, is all that is
required in that mortal to initiate and foster the production of his immortal
soul of survival qualities if such a spirit-endowed individual seeks God and
sincerely desires to become like him, honestly elects to do the will of the
Father in heaven.
1.2.7 The existence of God can never be
proved by scientific experiment or by the pure reason of logical deduction. God
can be realized only in the realms of human experience; nevertheless, the true
concept of the reality of God is reasonable to logic, plausible to philosophy,
essential to religion, and indispensable to any hope of
personality survival.
We all know that God is love.
But what kind of love? Jeshua says that charity (the quality of God's love) is
a generous heart, a grateful spirit, a forgiving soul, a courageous life, an
expansive vision, an exploratory mind, caring hands, persistent dedication, and
creative ideas. That kind of love is your spiritual wealth. He adds that as you
express your spiritual wealth, material abundance will follow. That is what
this book is about.
